Change Becomes Me – Joining Chicago’s @properties Real Estate Brokerage
Change.
It comes in a pile of coins.
Or it’s expressed on the calendar four times a year with the shifting of the seasons.
Or it happens at odd, possibly unexpected times in one’s professional life.
Kind of like an old school coffee percolator, the idea of a change was brewing for me a bit before the change came to be. I had been with Sussex & Reilly for three years, being recognized each year as one of the firm’s top producers. And while nothing was wrong, per se, as time passed I sensed that something was missing.
And though in 2007 I was the brokerage’s number two individual producer and in the top 10 of all Century 21 agents in the greater Chicagoland area I was yearning for something new and different. I also deeply desired a brokerage behind me that would enable me to continue to perform at the highest possible level with my buying and selling clients in the Chicago real estate market.
It came to me in the form of @properties.
I had received a phone call from Thad Wong, one of @’s owners a few weeks earlier. After sitting down with him for nearly two hours, talking about the state of the Chicago market, the upcoming presidential election, the viability of Chicago’s bid to host the Olympics, and how @properties has ascended to become one of the strongest brokerages in Chicago and among the most recognized independent real estate brokerages in the United States I was content that I had found a new home.
Fast forward a few weeks and I, Tom McCarey, am now the newest of agents at @properties.
Fortunately for me and my clients my newness is established on a firm foundation of years of experience as one of Chicago’s top realtors selling single family homes, condos, and multi-unit buildings. What’s really exciting is combining my me-ness with the state-of-the-art, tech savvy systems in place at @properties.
I have the feeling that I and my buying and selling clients are on the cusp of a wonderful new beginning.
