Baby Steps and First-Time Buyers of Chicago Real Estate

Just like this again, again...My younger son Lucas is taking his first steps toward becoming bi-pedal.

And though I don’t remember my own progress toward becoming ambulatory a few decades back, I imagine my tentativeness then rivaled his now.

Urging him forward one step at a time I can’t help but imagine the primal terror he might feel as he stands, ever so precariously, at the precipice of stringing together plural steps. And though each single step and subsequent balancing is met with unimaginable giggles, so too are some of the swift descents to the seat of his pants punctuated by a wide-eyed horror (even though a cushy pamper sustained much of the impact).

Perhaps there is a parallel between my son’s standing on the brink of taking steps and the sentiments of some of my buying clients who are just getting ready to start looking to buy a home in Chicago.

The similarities include …

Shh, shh, shhOf course there are dissimilarities as well. For instance while I can always pick up Lucas when tears overflow, the vast majority of both my buying and selling clients don’t want that degree of interaction with me.

I suspect they want my counsel and not my consoling. But, like Lucas, they definitely get someone they can trust and rely on.

I suppose that’s why four of the six buying clients I am working with this weekend have been referred to me by my past clients. With searches that range from seven-figure single families to Lake Shore Drive condos, that go from Lakeview, Lincoln Square and Roscoe Village to the north to Streeterville and the South Loop on the south, and west to Bucktown and the East Village, my old and new clients know they can turn to Tom McCarey for straightforward information and knowledgeable advice.
