I just registered this thought… about registering to vote
I admit it… I am spending far too much time ingesting, digesting, and regurgitating stuff online related to the presidential election. I am still focused on the Chicago real estate market. And my team at The Real Estate Lounge Chicago is helping buyers and sellers with their Chicago real estate needs.
But I am click-click-clicking on links, urls, dispatches, and the like with a gambler’s insatiable appetite.
It’s not like this is the first election I have witnessed and participated in. That honor goes to when I was a freshman at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in 1980. It was a three-man race between Carter, Reagan and the independent candidate Anderson. For those who don’t remember, Reagan prevailed in that race.
At any rate, instead of milking the cow as far as what I see, think and believe, I will leave it at this… I see this election as the most important of my lifetime.
- The financial market meltdown and banks closing at the rate that microwaved popcorn pops at the two-minute mark in the microwave…
- the rate of foreclosures rival the numeric drop in housing values in the last calendar year…
- qualified home buyers being forced to remain renters or to stay in housing that no longer suits their purposes because they can’t get a loan…
- because there’s a war in Iraq that is funneling our precious tax dollars there instead of working or reworking our country’s infrastructure (schools, bridges, roads)…
- because the capricious drop this week in the stock market prompted a devaluation in the US commerce (including 401ks, pensions, retirement plans) of more than a trillion dollars
That’s a number followed by 15 zeroes!
At any rate, I stumbled across something on line today that mesmerized me. It calls upon you to register to vote. Please, take a look! And then send the link to five of your friends (immediately, since the window to register is fast closing!)
Of course, the goal of all of this is that come November 4th you exercise this right and actually vote… so consider this an important first step.
