Words have meaning. But what about when the word doesn’t gain traction? Like when an auction results merely in sales at market price. I don’t think that’s what folks had in mind last week in Chicago. But most weren’t deterred in signing inviolable contracts.

Chicago movie reviewer Roger Ebert was especially worth reading when he panned a movie. Thoughts of Ebert filled my head when I read a NYT review this morning of “The Blind Side.” One line in particular struck me, talking about “seeking maximum uplift” while “shedding nuance and complication.”

Synchronicity? Things that are seemingly unrelated but upon further review are related and add up to some type of meaning. I thought of synchronicity when I read Monday that Chicago’s Elysian project is ripping up the contracts on 130 condo hotels, sending them to wander an Elysian Field of their own. Looks like what was touted as a great idea a few short years back really isn’t.
