Bear Down Bears . Sit Down Couch . A Chicago Sunday During Playoffs
Sunday arrives. Awaited. Nay, anticipated.
And unlike other Chicago Sundays, so many Chicago real estate Sundays, this Sunday is reserved for a position on the couch with a clear view of the tv to watch and (it is hoped) to enjoy the Chicago Bears.
So far I have said yay! thrice in person and in the tech vein via facebook.
A bit about myself. A fundamental if not slightly outdated description of myself is “Southside Irish.” Still it is true. From Markham and Irish, I qualify as such. I mention the Irish part, in case my name McCarey didn’t give me away, because like most Irish I am comprised of equal parts dark humor, dread, charm and grudge.
For today’s purpose I will stick simply to dread.
Most Irish I know are over-imbued with a sense of dread. It’s not that we expect the other shoe to fall but we believe we are fully cognizant of how the damned shoe is situated at the edge and how the forces of the universe are right now conspiring to knock it off so that it will indeed fall and join the first shoe that already fell (perhaps by the hand of one of our relatives (be they close or distant)).
So we await the falling shoe. And as we wait, many drink. And drink. And drink.
As we dread.
The time right now is 2.11 pm. The Chicago Bears are up 21-0 over the Seattle Seahawks. They have played a strong game, looking good on both sides of the ball. And if they win, and I expect that they will, they will face long-time division rival Green Bay for the NFC championship.
What a game that will be.
Now the Chicago Bears are up 28 – zip. Chances are strong the championship will be played next week between Chicago and Green Bay at Soldier Field.
But the Irish in me is dragging my heels to inscribe these comments and discharge them before the eyes of the universe. Don’t you know what might happen? And some story with similar circumstances will be offered about an outcome opposite of what is desired, of what is expected.
But it is a new year and part of my goal set is to shift the paradigm on certain things that hold me back or weigh me down. And so I am facing off against dread and saying, “Ye don’t own me.”
Yeah, I am doing that while sitting on my couch at my home instead of sitting an open house of one of my Chicago real estate listings as I am wont to do on most Chicago Sundays.
But fear not, after the end of the game today (with the Chicago Bears on top) I will don the garb of your cheerful Chicago real estate professional and head out to show a Gold Coast condo listing and a Buckown timber loft listing.
And while next week I may or may not chip away at the keyboard of my MacBook Pro as the Bears square off against the Packers it will be another Sunday when my couch will see me and not one of my Chicago real estate listings.
And as I wrap this up at 2.25 the Seahawks just scratched the board, kicking a field goal to make it a 28-3 game. But my dread for now is in check.
Go Bears!
And don’t hesitate to pick up the phone to call me at 773.848.9241 with any questions about a Chicago or North Shore listing you wish to view or a Chicago home you wish to sell.
