September 13th - Family Matters

Behind every successful man is a reason. For me it’s my family and my love for them. Tomorrow marks our fifth anniversary and I have pieced together a few montages for my lovely wife, Nicole. And tomorrow? Back to the fray with numerous showings and several pending deals.

Sober Thoughts About Economy

A sour economy has most Americans keeping a hand on their ever-thinning pocket books. But their free hand appears to be firmly wrapped around a bottle of their alcoholic beverage of choice. Meanwhile a busy Chicago real estate market has Tom McCarey reaching for his beloved Coca Cola as his beverage of choice. Thus he remains sharp for his buying and selling clients.

Candy in the morning does not a breakfast make…

“Candy,” was the first word Jackson uttered this morning, remembering the gift bag from last night. And thus Chicago real estate expert Tom McCarey compares his two-year-old’s selective memory to aspects of the Chicago real estate market - from the seller to the buyer to the financial side of things. The best thing to do is oversee “selective memory” that is too shortsighted.

The Big Truth about Jumbo Loans in Chicago Real Estate Market

“Chicago isn’t considered a “high cost” real estate market? Tell that to home buyers looking in any of the neighborhoods where I concentrate my business,” says Chicago real estate professional Tom McCarey. HUD didn’t classify Chicago as “high cost,” costing the city and its home buyers the opportunity to have access to more jumbo loan providers. The result? Higher interest rates and fewer options.

Crazy Like a Fox - Fox News Parts Ways with Good Taste

America lost a tremendous voice of reason Friday when Tim Russert died suddenly and unexpectedly. As news coverage, especially cable news, comes under greater scrutiny Russert’s loss will be especially felt by consumers who could turn to Tim for consistent, honorable, and unbiased coverage. Simultaneous to Russert’s death was another loss of credibility at Fox News as they referred to Michelle Obama with the crass term - “Obama’s baby mama.”

Making Memorial Day Memorable with Hope

Meeting Moses at an East Village Coffee Shop (When He Gets an Emailed Offer)

Moses tooled up to an East Village coffee shop earlier today on his new sleek silver Vespa.
It had been a while since I had seen the old guy, but I’m never surprised by what he does or how he does it. Today being a slight slice of Spring on what this year has been an ever-elongating wintry landscape he opted [...]

How Long Has this Been on the Market?

Half a dozen of one, six of the other.
That might be the subtitle for the merging together of half of a box of a dozen frozen fish sticks found by an Ohio woman last week.
But instead of tossing the x-shaped trio on the frying pan, Victoria Landis tossed them on ebay where their Easter week appearance [...]

Hope Defines Me - Meeting Barack on a Sunday Afternoon

Lucas turned one last week. And the change is colossal.
He always was a bright child - but now I will wake in the morning to find him transliterating speeches of the aspiring presidential candidates into both Latin and Greek. Nonplussed by criticism of some naysayers that these so-called “dead” languages are pointless, Lucas laughs and utters [...]

The Red Phone Rings - And the Answer(er) is?

“Jackson,” I said to my two-and-a-half year old son, “Who do you want to answer the phone at 3 am?”
“Daddy,” he squealed enthusiastically.
Whether it was me he would like to answer the phone in the middle of the night (or morning for that matter), or whether he was simply responding to my presence as daddy [...]
